WHERE TO SEE FOSSILS AROUND THE NORTHWEST
From the Oligocene whales of the Oregon Coast to the mammoths of the Inland Empire, the Northwest has a rich fossil heritage and my lab is just one of many in the region focused on studying this heritage. This concentration of sites and researchers means that there are many places in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and the surrounding states and provinces that you can visit to see, and in some cases collect, fossils. This map is my guide to museums and fossil sites within a day's drive of Spokane. The icons are color-coded based on the following key:
Red - World-class museum or locality. Worth planning a vacation to visit.
Blue - Very good museum or locality. Worth visiting if you're in the area (or planning a vacation to if you're a truly dedicated fossil buff)
Dark Gray - Smaller museum or locality, but still worth a visit.
Light Gray - Sites I haven't visited yet and therefore can't assess
